Wind farms
In order to maximize the wind turbine productivity, the turbine should be located, if possibile, on a plain and open ground, away from obstacles that may interfere with the wind flow. The wind turbine placement should also consider the distance from the connection point, since the increasing length of the cables raises the costs and generates electrical loss. Thus, a well positioned wind turbine is placed in an area of low roughness, which has a gradient between 6 and 16 degrees and the wind speed should be over 4 meters per second.
Routine maintenance is carried out twice a year, before and after winter. The noise level depends on the plant size and on its design. If the area is mostly residential, we recommend to install the turbines at 40-50 m from the buildings.
The impact of a wind farm depends on: land occupation, visual impact, noise level, electromagnetic interference, wildlife alteration. As the land actually occupated by the wind farm is just 1-2%, other land uses are not excluded. Moreover, wind farms are built in.
Strongly positive factors are the production of energy to directly supply to the local power grid and the power availability next to the local “loading centers”: it thus reduces the amount of energy to carry through power supply lines..
